Job offer: Service Technician (m/f/d)

Make rail transport sustainable

A young company with an old name and a clear goal: to make rail transport sustainable. Locomotives are constructed and modernized at LKM.

LKM has dedicated itself to the modernization of existing rail vehicles and relies, among other things, on electro-hybrid drive technologies. We develop and modernize existing rail vehicles and their subsystems and manufacture them as prototypes in our own workshop. We build small series on site or enable external industrialized series production, which takes place at the customer’s or at third parties.

Act sustainably, conserve resources and the climate

Instead of purchasing new, capital-intensive locomotives, well-preserved diesel-hydraulic or diesel-electric rail vehicles with a high degree of wear and tear are converted to an electro-hybrid drive train and electricity is used as the primary energy supply wherever possible: This protects the environment and makes economic sense. After the modernization, the rail vehicles generate practically no emissions, are significantly quieter in operation and offer a wider range of applications.

LKM offers

  • Specification, development, construction, approval (TSI, GOST, AAR) and production readiness of rail vehicles
  • Production of prototypes in our own workshop
  • Electro-hybrid locomotives: repowering/hybridization; conceptual and physical conversion of existing locomotives to modern (hybrid) drive systems

Development basis are currently diesel-hydraulic locomotives of type MaK G1204 to G2000. Further locomotives, especially diesel-electric ones, are in preparation. Talk to us, we will develop a hybridization concept for your rail vehicle fleet.

Workshop & Mobile Service

In our workshop at Kiel Friedrichsort, we offer comprehensive vehicle-related maintenance services in accordance with applicable regulations. These include, among other things:

  • Execution of maintenance (servicing and repairs) on rail vehicles
  • Revision according to § 32 and § 33 EBO, BOA and EBOA
  • Conversion and modernization
  • Component refurbishment
  • Accident repairs
  • Repairs and sheltered storage
  • Settlement of insurance claims; System service
  • Mobile Service

Your vehicles are a central element in your value chain, which is why we offer the fastest possible repairs and services on site with our mobile service. Our service team also carries out deadline inspections at your site.

Battery & Charging Technology

Alternative, low-emission or zero-emission drive concepts are a future market that is also becoming increasingly important for bus and ship traffic. Thanks to our broad knowledge of the market in the field of electro-hybrid drives and our reliable and mobile service, we guarantee maintenance work and fault services for commercially used battery drives, e.g. the charging stations of the Kieler Verkehrsgesellschaft (KVG) and the Schlepp- und Fährgesellschaft Kiel (SFK). As a cooperation partner, LKM supports the installation of the charging systems, the production of subsystems and project management.

We design, manufacture and assemble

  • Fast charging systems for commercial vehicles
  • Custom-made products for marine applications (accumulator ferries)
  • Depot charger and circulating/operational charging via pantographs/charging hoods
  • Weather-independent positioning systems

Thanks to our experienced, well-trained and practice-oriented employees with a passion for the railway system, LKM advises companies with a focus on asset management.
We advise

  • System and techniques in (combined) freight transport
  • Selection of new and used vehicles including construction supervision and approvals
  • Appraisals by experts (with external partners)
  • Participation in procurement tenders for vehicles and services
  • Layout of workshops and preparation of maintenance instructions

LKM has the equipment and certification customary today.

Our certificates:

We are hiring: Job offers

Diesel locomotives have been built in Kiel for 100 years: from 1921 to 1994 this production was under the management of Krupp – since 1955 with the name “MaK”. Later, first Siemens and then Vossloh became the owners of this traditional development and production facility.
In 2009, the engineering office was spun off from Vossloh’s core team under the LKM brand. LKM develops and designs modern rail vehicles and their systems.
In order to be able to supply its customers not only with concepts but also with vehicles, LKM took over parts of the production facilities from Ex-Krupp – MaK in 2020 and can thus offer engineering services and workshop work from a single source. With 15 km of trouble-free test track and all essential facilities for production, type tests and commissioning of rail vehicles of all kinds, LKM is well and efficiently positioned today.
